AKA Julie Blumberg

Here is a sample of my signature written in the clay.

Artist Bio

Julie West studied studio arts with a concentration on ceramics and sculpture at Indiana University and Bloomsburg University, receiving a BA and MA respectfully. During her years as a ceramicist and sculptor, her work was shown in many galleries and shows in the New England area. With clay she sought to push the limits of the medium. Her sculptural work explored many materials, including large fiberglass pieces, wood and fiber.

Julie enjoys teaching. Her teaching experiences have included in home studio classes, art organization classes, grade school children, and at two universities. She has a masters degree in elementary education.

Since settling in St. Louis, her sculptural work has been silver sculpture to wear. Drawing is used as a tool to work on ideas, and as a finished piece.  Painting is currently her primary focus. Over the last few years, she has been channeling her creative energies into developing a new body of work. The new work is a continuation of the current that runs throughout her career: a close relationship with the natural world, inspired by landscapes and organic forms. Her works often combine realism with organic abstraction, emotional expression.
